Starting a new year is an excellent time to plan your business promotions for the upcoming quarter or full year. Getting rooted in your promotional plan for 2024 now helps you start the year on the right foot.

Here’s what you need to know about preparing your 2024 promotional plan.

  1. Review your branding
  2. Review and update your media library
  3. Create promotional plans
  4. Now is an excellent time to review your branding to see if it still suits your needs and how your company has evolved over the past year.

To start, gather all the design elements you used in 2024. These elements may include logos, photoshoots, graphics templates, and print promotional materials. Note which ones you’re still happy with and which you look back on and cringe, thinking, “This doesn’t make any sense anymore.”

Also, look for any pieces that feel off-brand or inconsistent. Don’t forget to ensure that your digital materials are consistent with your printed ones.

Once you find the branding elements that still match the planned direction for your company in the new year, list any new elements you need to create and get those on your project plan to create.

  1. Review and update your media library
If you’ve discovered that you need to update your digital assets and media, there are three ways you can do it:
Search stock photo websites and download any images that match your brand (be sure to record the creator so you can give credit when appropriate or required).
Make a list of photos you want to take yourself (behind the scenes, candid team photos, event or on-site photos of your products)
Hire a professional photographer for branding, product, or event photos (they could also help you create unique, on-brand stock photos).

  1. Create promotional plans
Next, begin planning what your promotional schedule will look like for the coming year. You can plan your entire year at once or do it by quarter. Here are some things to include in your marketing and promotional plan:
Product or service launches or updates
    Quarterly website updates
    Communication plan for social media
Email marketing plan for staying in touch with your audience
Events and tradeshows you’ll be attending (and your involvement)

Your business likely has other promotional activities to plan. To help you get started, download our free one-page promotional plan template.

  1. Consider your seasonal needs
Break your planning and needs by the season. For example, you may have annual needs (like a catalogue, annual report, and holiday gifting). You may also have quarterly product launches, events, or promotions to plan. You’ll also have monthly needs like sending a monthly newsletter and maininging several posts per week on your business social media channels.

You may have other activities to add. Here are some to consider:
Creating freebies for your customers to download (in exchange for joining your mailing list)
Creating giveaways and contests around key launches and promotions
Creating checklists for your services
Reviewing your contact database to ensure it’s updated
